 At ESU, we believe in more. Of everything. That’s why we offer the Sunflower Scholarship, a renewable $5,000-scholarship for incoming freshmen, transfer and international undergraduate students eligible for out-of-state tuition rates.

 Am I eligible?

The Sunflower Scholarship is available to full-time* domestic and international undergraduate students who are not eligible for reduced tuition based on geographic location. Students classified as NEARR, MSEP, or Corky +, and those with international agreements are not eligible.

Freshmen. New, first-time freshman students are eligible if they have scored at least a 21 or higher on the ACT, a 980 on the SAT, or an equivalent score on another recognized exam and have a 2.5 unweighted GPA or higher. 

Transfer Students. New transfer students are eligible if they have at least 24 transferable credit hours and have a 2.5 GPA or higher.

 How long can I renew?

The Sunflower Scholarship can be renewed for a total of six subsequent semesters after the first year for freshman students and two subsequent semesters after the first year for transfer students as long as the student completes at least 12 credit hours and earns a 2.0 GPA or higher.

 * Full-time students are classified as students taking 12 credit hours or more. For full Sunflower Scholarship eligibility, 10 of these hours must be on-campus classes.

The Sunflower Scholarship is a renewable flat-rate $5,000 scholarship for qualified domestic and international undergraduate students who pay out-of-state tuition.
Incoming domestic and international undergraduate students not eligible for in-state or reduced tuition rates. Freshman students are eligible if they have at least a 21 ACT score, a 980 SAT score, or an equivalent score on another recognized exam and a 2.5 or higher unweighted GPA. Transfer students are eligible if they have at least 24 transferable credit hours and a 2.5 unweighted GPA or higher.

The Sunflower Scholarship allows us to extend all of the benefits of Hornet Nation to college-bound students anywhere in the world, in some cases for less than the cost of their in-state rates.
Through the generosity of many Emporia State alumni, faculty, staff and friends, the ESU Presidential Scholarship is awarded to new incoming freshman students based on their High School GPA and ACT scores. To qualify a student must be a first-time undergraduate ESU freshman with at least a 21 or higher ACT (or equivalent SAT score) and have a 3.0 or above unweighted GPA. Additionally, students must be enrolled in at least 12 ESU credit hours per semester and earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA in the first year. Freshman students are eligible for renewal of the scholarship for an additional six semesters after the first academic year. Each year the student must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours in the combined fall, spring, and trailing summer semester's and achieve a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Through the generosity of many Emporia State alumni, faculty, staff and friends the ESU Transfer Scholarship is awarded to new incoming Transfer students based on GPA and transferring credit hours. To qualify, a student must be a first-time undergraduate ESU student and have a 3.0 or above GPA on 24 or more transferable hours. Additionally, students must be enrolled in at least 12 ESU credit hours for the incoming semester. Students beginning in the fall semester are eligible for renewal of the scholarship for an additional two semesters after the first academic year upon completion of at least 30 credit hours in the combined fall, spring, and trailing summer semester with a 3.0 GPA. Students who begin in the spring semester are eligible for renewal of the scholarship for an additional two semesters after the first semester upon completion of at least 15 credit hours in the combined spring and trailing summer semester with a 3.0 GPA.
