About Us

Counseling Services is staffed by licensed mental health professionals and student interns.  All staff members are licensed by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board and interns are supervised by counselors who hold a clinical license.  

       Lindsay Bays

 Lindsay M. Bays MS, LCPC, LCAC

  • Director of Student Wellness Center - Counseling
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor 
  • Lindsay has a master's degree in Counseling from Emporia State University.  
  • Lindsay has  experience working  with students as the Coordinator of the ESU Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention program and Biofeedback Center.  Lindsay is a licensed clinical professional counselor and clinical addictions counselor with focused specialized training in Interpersonal Therapy for the Treatment of Eating Disorders, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent Management Training-Oregon model and other trauma therapies.  Lindsay also provides mental health counseling to students who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, adjusting to college, relationship difficulties, etc. 

       Joey Wood

Joey Wood, MS, LPC

  • Coordinator of Alcohol & Drug Abuse Programs (ADAP)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor


  • Joey has a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Emporia State University. She has experience working with individuals and groups from the Emporia community and surrounding area. Such populations include county jail inmates, at-risk families, those experiencing anxiety, depression, substance dependence or excessive anger, and adults living with TBIs (Traumatic Brain Injuries). 
  • As the ADAP (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention) Coordinator, Joey will provide and cultivate education and prevention programming across campus. She will also provide substance abuse counseling for students who may be experiencing issues or have concerns in this area. 
  • Joey also provides mental health counseling to students who may be experiencing a wide range of life circumstances, such as adjusting to college or other life transitions, and those struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, crisis, etc. 

       Jayme Gillund

Jayme Gillund, MS, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

  • Jayme has a masters degree in counseling from ESU. Her previous work experience has been diverse and includes working with children and families, substance abuse treatment, court programs, parenting and working with adults with co-occurring disorders. She uses a trauma informed/person centered approach in working with students. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) 
  • Jayme provides mental health counseling to students who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, relationship difficulties, stress, trauma, etc. 


       Ted Farrington, MS, LPC

  • Licensed Professional Counselor

  • Ted received his master's in Counseling from Emporia State University.  While he was a graduate student, Ted completed an internship within Counseling Services, providing counseling to students.  His prior experience include working in emergency services at Crosswinds in Emporia.  
  • Ted works well with the student population, meeting their needs, providing individual and couples counseling, and crisis services.  He has experience working a variety of issues such as depression, relationship difficulties, anxiety, adjustment issues, etc.



Nicole Stump, LMSW

  • Licensed Master Social Worker
  • Biofeedback Coordinator
  • Certified HeartMath™ Facilitator
  • Nyki received her master's in Social Work from Wichita State University. Her previous work experience include child advocacy, providing K-12 in-school therapy, private practice in therapy and life coaching, and providing crisis services at Four County Mental Health in Winfield, KS.
  • Nyki provides counseling to students and couples suffering from depression, anxiety, disordered eating, adjustment issues, and relationship problems with a mindfulness based and strengths based approach.
  • Nyki is also certified in HeartMath™, a biofeedback technique designed to align one’s heart rate and breathing in order to reduce stress and provide relaxation.
