Hornet ID Card
As a new student, you will receive your new Hornet Card during a Hornet Connection. If you do not attend a Hornet Connection, you may come into the ID Office once you are registered as an active student. Faculty and staff can get their Hornet Card once the ID Office receives notification from Human Resources of their employment.
Your E-Number (student or employee ID number) & one of the following forms of ID: 1. Current driver’s license 2. Current State of Kansas ID card 3. Current passport with photo 4. Current Military ID with photo 5. Photo ID from US immigration services 6. High school ID with photo If none of the above are available an individual can be issued a Hornet ID by providing: Social Security Card, birth certificate, utility bill (or other bill with current address), and the individual’s signature.
Your Hornet Card has many uses on campus. It it important to keep your Hornet Card on you whenever you are on campus.
Hornet Bucks, or Declining Balance Dollars, are funds that can be loaded on your Hornet Card. Hornet Bucks can be used like a debit card to make purchases in certain retail locations on campus. When you purchase Hornet Bucks, we give you a bonus 10% on top of what you purchase. For example, if you purchase $100 in Hornet Bucks, we will load $110 on your card.
You can add Hornet Bucks with cash, check, or debit/credit card at the ID Office in the Memorial Union. You may also call the ID Office at (620) 341-5859 with your student ID number and put money on the Hornet Card with a credit card. Funds must be added in $5.00 increments.
Hornet Cards are $18.00. The only exception is be replacing a card that is not functional or damaged through normal use. In that case, we will replace your card for free. If the card has been damaged because of negligence, such as using it as an ice scraper, the replacement fee applies.
Replacement cards are available during regular business hours in the ID Office. The replacement cost is $18.00. To streamline the replacement process, please have your student ID number ready.
First, call the ID Office at (620) 341-5859 and report it as lost or stolen. Lost cards are returned to the ID Office. Staff can check for cards in lost and found. If the card is not found, we can de-activate the lost card to prevent usage and issue a new card for a replacement cost of $18.00. You may use the saved photo if it represents your current appearance, or you may have a new photo taken.
First, complete an Identity Statement through either the Graduate School or Distance Education office. You will then provide us with a digital photo and other required student information and pre-pay the $18.00 card printing fee. Once payment has been received, your Hornet Card will be mailed to the address on file in the university's student information system. If you wish for your card to be mailed to a different address, you will need to change your official address with the Registration Office.
All replacement cards, except for "wear and tear" replacements, are $18.00. However, if you still have your original Hornet Card, we can activate it upon enrollment. Also, if you attend a Hornet Connection to enroll, you can get a new card as part of that process.
If your Hornet Bucks balance is less than $5.00, no refund is available. For amounts greater than $5.00, come to the ID Office and fill out a refund request form. A portion of the balance (your balance less the bonus amount loaded at the time of purchase) will be refunded in the form of a check, usually within two business days.
Hornet Bucks stay on your Hornet Card over each semester and after you graduate. After three years of inactivity on the card, the funds are considered abandoned and will be removed from the account. It is the responsibility of the card holder to request the balance to be refunded.
